The Works and Technical Services Department is responsible for providing technical and engineering services that support infrastructure development and effective service delivery in Kalungu District.

The Department’s mandate includes the planning, design, implementation, supervision, maintenance and management of district infrastructure and engineering works. A major area of responsibility is the development and maintenance of district, urban and community access roads to ensure that communities remain connected and that movement of people, goods and services is facilitated.

The Department also provides technical supervision of construction, renovation and maintenance works undertaken by the District and other sectors, ensuring that projects are implemented in accordance with approved designs, Bills of Quantities, technical standards and required quality specifications. This includes providing technical oversight for public infrastructure such as health facilities and government buildings.

In addition, the Department is responsible for the maintenance and repair of vehicles, road equipment and other machinery owned or used by the District. This includes ensuring that district vehicles, plant and machinery are properly maintained and kept in a serviceable condition to support the effective delivery of government programmes and services.

The Department also oversees road maintenance interventions such as grading, spot gravelling, swamp raising, drainage improvement, culvert installation and compaction, as well as emergency works on critical road sections.

Through these functions, the Works and Technical Services Department plays a central role in supporting safe, accessible and sustainable infrastructure, maintaining essential district assets and equipment, improving connectivity, and ensuring value for money in public works and infrastructure investments across Kalungu District.
